Well, the year isn’t over and we’re going into a time with lots of events. Most of the November ones are only a day and won’t disrupt your life but will make a difference in the life of a greyhound in our kennel. We need volunteers!
We have a new person handling the scheduling of events and he will most certainly do a more organized job of it than I have done over the years. If you see something that interests you, please contact Steve Holloway at sholloway7@bellsouth.net and he’ll work the details out with you. I hope you find something in all of these things. Please remember that FoG really needs the exposure and the donations. Sometimes events are my only chance to visit with some of you and your dogs! I love that part. Please keep watching this blog and be sure you are signed up with the Yahoo group so we can let you know if other events are put on the schedule. Hope to work with you SOON!
Our Upcoming Events:
Sun, Nov 14th – We will have a booth in the Expo area of the Miami Man Triathlon being held down by Zoo Miami. (Thompson Park) If you are a morning person, this is your party! We ;have to set up about 7 am and the expo itself is 10 – 4 on Saturday as the racers come in to see the course & pick up their packages. Sunday we have to be in place at 5AM because of the parking configuration. We’ll be there until 4 pm. So there’s lots of hours to cover and we really need help. SUPER SPECIAL – Anyone who works this event (3 hours or more) will receive a FREE FoG/ Miami Man limited edition t-shirt! Email Steve Holloway right NOW!
Sat. Nov. 20th – Fusion Fitness & Yoga’s 1st Anniversary Party – 10000 W. Sample Rd, Coral Springs – Yoga, Doga, vendors, food and greyhounds. What more could you ask?. About 9 AM to 4 pm.
Wed, Nov. 24th – the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, we will be working a donation table at Publix at Sawgrass Center, 5950 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs, 10Am till ?? Come man the table and bring a dog or two.
Fri thru Sunday – Dec 3 – 5 – We are trying to get into the Ft. Lauderdale Home Design & Remodeling show. HELP!! We know the convention center won’t allow us to have dogs inside but we’d be willing to work without the dogs – just using photos. If any of you have any connections or pull with this event, please, please use it to try to get them to give us a table in there. Even one in the corner in the dark. This is a big show and should be our market and I simply cannot get through the door with them! HELP!
Saturday – Dec 11 – 6 pm to 11 pm. The City of North Miami Beach has invited us to the Snowfest Parade and festival. The parade is just about a half mile (greyhound friendly!) They said they’d love to have us as many people and greyhounds, festively dressed and as lit up as possible. Vendor and kid friendly areas are planned and I even heard there’s going to be snow! So dress up the dogs and check the batteries in the lights and the cameras. We should be able to make memories that night!
Fri thru Sunday – Jan 14-16th. Art Deco Weekend. Always a big event for us, this is where the greyhounds get to strut their stuff on South Beach. Held at Ocean Drive between about 5th & 15th streets, this is one fun party. The CARS!!! The FOOD!! The giant sandbox (beach) right behind out tent! Last years hours were Fri, noon to 11pm; Sat. 10am to 11 pm and Sun. 10 am to 6 pm. We’ve usually opted out for the night hours as it tends to be a drinking crowd. We may put the dogs in the truck but I think we’re going to try to work the tent later this year in hopes of getting donations which we sorely need. That means we will need a whole lot more help from you Please, please sign up. This is the first year we will have to pay for this show and it will be a big nut to crack. It’s a little gamble for us. We will need your help to make it pay off!
Sat. Jan 29th – Doggie Palooza at Happy Tails Dog Park in Plantation. Sometimes the local dog parties are the very best and this one has a great history. Hope you’ll help us out. Hours are set for 10 am to 3 pm so we’ll have two shifts. Bring your dogs!

Sat & Sun, Feb 26th & 27th is the South Miami Rotary Art Show on Sunset 8:30 to 6 both days and this is a wonderful, wonderful show for us. They provide a nice tent and the crowd is courteous and generous and very interested in the dogs. Take your vitamins before you work this one. There’s no break in the questions and the time just flies by.
