There’s so much going on!

I know John keeps most of your entertained and updated with his kennel blog these days so you haven’t heard much from me. But every so often, I still need to stick my nose into the electronic world! There’s so much going on!

Adoptions have been very brisk and we are seeing a change in the racing dogs these days. There are more males being raced than females so our kennel is full of retired boys! Personally, I think they are the best. Males seem to be more lovey dovey and sweet than their alpha-dog sisters. Of course every dog has his or her own personality but what a wonderful bunch of boys we have in the kennel these days. You really need to check them out!

Experienced adopters are also needed at the kennel on the weekends to help out with walking potential adopters around once in a while. If you come to visit, be aware that you may be put to work! Last weekend we did 11 applications and we were so busy, even the new kennel worker who had just started that day was working with people – – – and he was responsible for a new adoption! Plus the shop really needs a “keeper” and our stockroom is a mess. Come on down and let us put you to work.

Dr. Willie of Welleby Vet Center (Oakland Pk Blvd & Nob Hill Road, Sunrise) is going to do some “catch-up” surgeries for us on Wednesday (4/12 3/13). They normally close at 1 pm on Wednesdays so we find we need two or three adults to volunteer to help out with the dogs when they are waking up from surgery. This is a neat chance to see the inner workings of a vet hospital and be part of a greyhound’s transition from track dog to house dog. Call me (Michelle) at 954-937-9663 if you want to volunteer. They’ll need you there about 1:15 or 1:30 for a couple hours. This is something special.

We have a “wish list” online but I wanted to mention that right now we are very short of dog cookies and of Pine Sol. So if you’re thinking of picking something up, consider this a hint.

Thanks goes out to Channel 10 for stopping by last Monday to film a couple of promotional clips. Jacey Birch did two different 60 second pieces with Chris and me to use on their News programs. Watch for us!

Upcoming Events –

Be sure to make time for our party at the Royal Pig Pub this Thursday. Click here to get to the flyer. We’ll have some awesome raffles and we get to bring the greyhounds to visit with each other. Your $20 donation gets you drinks, snacks, raffle tickets and good company. Now that’s a deal!

Publix in Coral Springs – We’ll do our traditional appearance at the Publix in Coral Springs on Friday & Saturday (March 29th & 30th) before Easter. Lots of shifts available for this work which is so very important to the running of our kennel. We gather cash donations and lots of goodies from the shoppers as well as introducing people to our wonderful breed. Contact Ilene Kreitzer ( to join the schedule. It’s hard work with great results.

Horses & Hounds – We’ll be back at the ranch in Lake Worth for this fabulous event. Our friends Jane & Jeri have now created a separate foundation for H&H which benefits FoG. Our hostesses will once again welcome our dogs (all breeds) to visit with their gorgeous horses and will offer lunch and a wonderful afternoon of horses and our “dog show” and we’ll have a bunch of goodies from the shop there, too. Bring the neighbors and all your friends. There’s an RSVP contact on the bottom of the flyer. Yes, we’ll have H&H t-shirts again this year. Be sure to check out the flyer by clicking here.

Pompano Seafood Festival will be coming up April 26 – 28th. This is always a popular event for us. We were rained out in their temporary location last year but we’re looking forward to being back in the old area which has had a major facelift and I hear it is really awesome. Sign up for shifts after April 1.

Hope to see you at the kennel – – – SOON!

Love, Peace & Greyhounds,
Michelle & Jerry & all the hounds!
