John’s Happy Tales Report
9/4/17 Mostly Happy Tales From Inside And Around The FoG Kennel.

Appropriately enough it has been a quiet, very quiet week at the kennel, even Dusty and Scott are laying low during these final (we wish) dog days of summer. It’s just as well, after Harvey, now everyone is focused on Irma and her possible visit to south Florida, so it’s justifiable that kennel activity at the moment is nonexistent. It’s just not a good time to be thinking about adding an addition to your household when it’s possible that this time next week we may be without electricity, which includes air conditioning, travel about town may be hindered or shut down, so, we wait with quiet anticipation on the next few days to see what Irma has in store for the rest of the world.

We do have two events tentatively scheduled if we get through the current crisis, both are informal gatherings, no fundraisers, expectations, etc., and hope that the weather will be kind to us. First, on Saturday 16th, 11 A.M. to 2 P.M., we will be at Flamingo Road Nursery, 1655 Flamingo Road, Davie, just south of 595 or north of Griffin. Flamingo Road Nursery has The Last Cast BBQ stand/restaurant on the side, plenty of shade, tiki huts, usually a decent breeze comes through, and Michelle and I both love the BBQ. If you have not been here before, it’s a great way to spend a couple weekend hours, we have the hounds, also plenty of people passing by with their own dogs, or by themselves, a lot of them just have to stop and say hello to the hounds, so if you’re working on your hound’s social skills, like we are with our Diffy, it’s a great place for them to practice their manners. The BBQ is worth the trip even if you don’t have your own hound, and it’s fun to roam through the nursery and check out all the beautiful plants and flowers that you could take home and kill with your black thumb. It’s only three hours, usually we’re in and gone by the time anyone thinks about it starting to get a little warm. As previously stated, plenty of room and usually a little breeze, and the lemonade slushies are a good way to stay cool and refreshed. The hounds must be leashed of course, and the floor is cement, but you are welcome to bring a bed or cushion for them to lounge on. The second event is a week later, on Sunday, September 24th, from 10 A.M. until 1 P.M. at the Dog Dude Ranch, 6305 S.W. 120 Ave., Miami, we will be in the front, fenced corral area. Dogs will be allowed off leash to roam and run, or run fifty seconds then lounge around the rest of the time, which is what ours did last time. There was decent shade and enough seating, but you can also bring your own lounge chairs if you want to.

That’s about all the news that’s currently fit to print, no action in the kennel this week, incoming or outgoing, we still have the Magnificent 7, six boys and one girl available for adoption, not counting Yul Brenner, you can check the website for all the information on them, or you can contact Michelle or Jerry at the kennel and they can answer just about any questions you have about the current inmates, or greyhounds in general, that adopting out over two thousand greyhounds worth of experience can provide. Storm on the horizon, don’t forget to include your animals in your hurricane preparations, they need supplies too. Have a safe week, hopefully we’ll be back next week, unscathed, and ready to move forward into the beginning of the end of summer. Don’t bite anyone, and if you do, make sure your shots are up to date. Don’t forget to check out Scott’s blog, ‘Dusty and Me’ when he gets back on the airwaves.

I searched on the phrase “vacuum a greyhound” and noticed there are a disturbing number of videos showing dirty buses.

I love Greyhounds. My last dog was part Greyhound. She ran like the wind. Keep in touch with me about adopting one. Thanks
