John’s Happy Tales Report
7/20/15 Mostly Happy Tales From Inside And Around The Fog Kennel, Maybe A Blast From The Past And Going Boldly Where We’Ve Never Been Before Almost Maybe.

Mr. Gee

Mr. Gee

Happy Midsummer’s Dream to each and every greyhound and human alike. We are almost squarely in the middle of the dog days of summer. The Greyhound Memorial Project is in motion; Ms. Michelle is chasing her tail trying to work on that, this fool has agreed to try to help in a minor way. My job is to try to write some short obituaries about some of our hounds that passed away while in our kennel. This is a depressing project for me of which I have zero experience, but first I must try to update our community on the goings on of the kennel in an upbeat manner. Hopefully I don’t run them together or mix and match, also on the front burner is the listing I’m making of all of my record collection which includes around two thousand old 45’s from the late fifties through the late sixties plus two or three hundred 33 albums. So if you see something in reference to the passing of one of my four legged friends, and I’m singing and swinging about it, remember that it might just be a mix of Elvis doing ‘You Ain’t Nothing But a Hound Dog’ , I get as easily confused as Michelle, but with half the recognition. Besides the greyhounds seeking forever homes, if you know of anyone who might be interested in a large vinyl collection of rock and roll records, please let me know. These are not mint, they are used but if you’re into old time rock and roll, I’m looking for someone who will give them a good home and not use them for skeet shooting or Frisbee practice.

Lee

Lee

On the kennel front, my information has us with around sixteen dogs. We have about ten in the kennel area and about six in the foster section. All my numbers are approximations, I just talked with the boss about everything else but the latest up to the minute stats, so I’m going on the latest list that I have. In any case, if you see a dog on Pet finder or our website that you are interested in, just contact Michelle or Jerry and they can give you all the up to the minute information, and, in most cases, they can arrange an in home meeting with you and the intended adoptee at your convenience. I haven’t heard of any other local groups that will do that for you. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t any, I just know of no others that will do that, and I think it’s pretty neat because when we were operational down in Hialeah, the best you could do was visit us on Saturday or Sunday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., so actually, this is a lot more convenient. What we now lack in quantity, we make up for in quality and service. Our little black beauty Wednesday, has an application or has been adopted already, I think. We’re still awaiting word on whether our little puppy Fang, aka, Elvis, and possibly some other name, is a real greyhound. He has been neutered and came through with flying colors, he’s doing very well in his foster home at the moment, word is he’s housebroken now if he wasn’t already, and I think they will be lining up to see if they can adopt him, whether he is or is not a greyhound. He’s probably not on Pet finder because he won’t be here that long.

Foxy Flake

Foxy Flake

In all the excitement last week, I forgot to mention the note we got from Foxy Flake’s humans. As you can see, she’s doing great, another life changing event for both human and greyhound, my favorite kind of story. We have a photo of her, don’t know if will be posted or maybe it’s on the website on ‘Letters from Home’ already, but she’s looking pretty darn good.

Hi Michelle, I just wanted you to know that Foxy is doing better than ever and adopting her was the best decision I ever made. Attached is a photo I took today of her doing what she loves to do – laying out in the sun. Feel free to use this if you want. Thanks. WK

I’ve got a couple nice items but they will have to wait till next time, this is getting up there in length and we haven’t covered everything, but I now have a head start on next week, which makes me happy. There are two new arrivals that I did not see before, so I hope they are new. Will mention them in case our webmaster has a photo of them he’d like to use, he favors pictures of the current inmates rather than the ones who have already gone out, and I don’t blame him, they need all the exposure they can get. So Lee and Mr. Gee are the new arrivals, Lee is brindle and Mr. Gee is red. Both are three years old and are male, or were the last time we checked. With all this crap about Bruce Jenner, you never know when you go to bed one evening and say good night to Mr. Gee, you may greet him in the morning and he may be Ms. Gee. Is this politically incorrect? May have to edit it out, oh well, if so, you can still check out Lee and Mr.Gee on our website and even in person if you so desire. Have a greyt week, and it’s onward and upward to the obituary column for now for me.
