John’s Happy Tales Report
6/6/16 Mostly Happy Tales From Inside And Around The FoG Kennel.

Today marks the 72nd anniversary of D-Day, the Normandy invasion, which was the beginning of the end of WWII. Hopefully it’s still politically correct to commemorate historic events in America without offending some small group or organization. Speaking of groups, don’t forget next Monday evening, at the Beverly Hills Café, from 6-9 P.M., we will be having a hound gathering. Humans are welcome and it is just a social, not a fundraiser, so have no fear, come out, have some food, see some of the old gang (getting older) and enjoy the evening. This Saturday we will be at our favorite Pet Supermarket at 801 E. Sunrise Boulevard in Ft. Lauderdale for the standard 10-2 meet and greet, stop by and say hello if you are in the area. Also on this Wednesday, June 8th, all Pet Supermarkets are having $5 off on Canine Greenies, which is worth a trip to your local store. Michelle is also welcoming a new volunteer on Sunday, all volunteers and any help is always greytly appreciated.

Summer is basically here, so again, be aware of pets locked in cars with the windows rolled up, yours and others. It still happens all the time. Also, with summer we have the increase of ticks and fleas. Two excellent websites for prevention products are Equine-Mega-Store.com and Deadfleaz.com. Both are reliable and cheaper than a lot of local sites. Remember, if you went to a BBQ and thought there might be mosquitos, you wouldn’t drink “OFF” and let it course through all your internal organs before coming out your pores to kill a mosquito, so consider what you’re doing when you give your hound an oral flea or tick killer. Greyhounds are chemically sensitive; the long term effects may not be what you bargained for.

Black Dog month is off and running and we have results already. Black Dog #1, Darla, has been adopted by her foster parents. Her human Mom is home most of the time, she gets a lot of attention and has a nice small yard to play in, and that seems to be just what she needed. She’s doing greyt and seems to do better every day. Black Dog #2, Chloe, went to live with Faber and family, as planned on Saturday. Faber was glad to see her, and the humans were pleasantly surprised to learn that Chloe came with a $50 discount and a goodie bag. So far all is going greyt with them. Black Dog #3, Chris Carter, was adopted by the Draschners. They’ve been adopting our dogs since 2002 and Michelle can’t say enough about how good they’ve been to FoG and our dogs over the years. They also have a pet sitting service, Happy Paws Pet Sitting Service, if you need sitting service, I believe they are in the Miami area, don’t hesitate to check them out, they’ve been treating animals right for many years. Black Dog #4, Abra, now lives in Miami Shores. Her new family had previously adopted one of our hounds through the Humane Society many years ago, and they are ready to continue the tradition with another one of our adoptables. They have a new house and a nice yard and Abra reportedly walked in like she owned it, so it looks pretty good for her too. So the Black Dog Program is off and running, currently the only black dog left is Denim, but there will undoubtedly be more. If you’re looking for a nice black girl, she comes with a discount and a heart full of love, so come check her out, or contact Michelle and we can probably arrange for her or any of our adoptables to come visit you at your adobe. Vicky is a new arrival, she’s a brindle, but still very adoptable. For up to the minute information on any and all our dogs, you can contact Michelle or Jerry at the kennel, or through the website or phone.

Denim

Denim

Ok, that covers most of the dirt for the past week. Vicky, Andy, Ironman, Akira, Denim, Harry, Asia, Billy, and possibly some others are waiting for you to come down and sweep them off their feet and take them away to live happily ever after, or maybe invite a couple of them over to your house for a look/see and it might end up as love at first sight. They are beautiful pets, unique as well as exotic in their own way. Go ahead, ask anyone who owns one and see what they say about them. Have a greyt week; don’t forget next week’s gathering at the Beverly Hills Café in Davie, information is on the website, from 6 to 9ish.
