June has come and gone already, we left the Hialeah kennel last June, and a year has come and gone already. Amazing, I’m not sure that everyone is having fun, but the time has flown. The FoG kennel is still focused on acquiring a new home for our retired greyhounds, and it’s not as easy as you might think to raise large sums of money. It’s disappointing that it seems that the people wanting to help cannot manage it financially and the people who could help, have not been found or don’t care. Such is life in the big city.

In kennel news, we have, at last count, nine dogs available for adoption, one girl and eight boys. There are also others waiting to come in, for all the up to the minute information, it’s best to contact Michelle or Jerry, and they can fill you in on the up to the minute details that I don’t have at the moment. Was hoping for a little blog from the boss with all the information but the last I heard she is sort of out there chasing her tail trying to catch up on everything as we are starting to get more dogs than we can handle. Indication of this is the fact that she is looking for foster parents to take care of the overflow. That is not how Michelle operates, so I’m thinking that things are starting to get a bit hairy.

There’s so much I need to say and I have to find time to do a blog of my own but I’m just running like mad these days.

Here’s a quick story for you – – Ann Hogan of Delray Beach was a long time adopter and advocate for the greyhounds. She passed away recently and we will miss her. Today I picked up her two remaining dogs from Ann’s daughter, Holly. She would have loved to have kept them but she shares her mom’s love of animals and is above capacity now with dogs, cats and kids. I don’t remember ever stopping by Ann’s house that Holly wasn’t there with her for a visit or checking in. The two had seats on opposite sides of a table where they’d work together on jigsaw puzzles. Ann was a great lady. And her remaining greys Delsa (MCP”s Delsa, a former brood mom, now 12 years young), and Lounge (Lounge Around, now 10 years young) are great dogs. Healthy and affectionate but orphans for the moment. I have them here and we are looking for a home preferably that will keep them together. I have a call in to Senior Sanctuary in Orlando area but they don’t have room right now since neither dog is cat or small dog tolerant. I am over-full and have been moving dogs into volunteers’ foster homes as quickly as I can but I’m still behind the curve. If anyone would be interested in fostering a dog for a while, please email me (fogdogs@comcast.net) . I’ll need to know if they have cats or other dogs or kids or steps.

Anything you can do to help would be appreciated!!! We are officially in overflow. Kingsley is in the house running from room to room to be where no one else is. Delsa and Lounge are sharing the large corner kennel as there’s no more room!

That’s the best I can do for now, straight from the head honcho greyhound’s mouth, and,as you can see, the housing problem is quickly becoming critical. Last Saturday was a meet and greet at Pet Supermarket, which means that there probably won’t be one this Saturday, especially since it will be July 4th. Speaking of which, we will put the ‘don’t leave your dogs in the hot car’ message aside for this week and bring to the forefront another important reminder. July 4th is coming up, please be very careful with your hounds. Every year around the 4th of July, we get a call from someone who has lost a greyhound. There will be noise all day and especially at night, please take extra care and make sure your fourpaws is safe and secure. Have a happy and safe 4th from everyone at the FoG kennel, thanks for your endless support and I hope to see everyone in our new kennel within my lifetime. Don’t panic, I’m old, so it’s not that long of a time frame we’re talking about here, but it would be nice. Speaking not only for myself, but for the rest of the regulars, I sure do miss the beautiful weekends with my extended greyhound and greyhound people, and meeting all the people stopping in to see our beautiful hounds, hopefully this will become a reality soon.
