John’s Happy Tales Report
5/29/17 Mostly Happy Tales From Inside And Around The FoG Kennel.

After two weeks of fantastic weather in the 50’s and 60’s, with no computer, no news, no sports, I come back to sweltering heat. I did not meet one greyhound in my travels. There was plenty of activity down here though, my first act was to read all of the Dusty and Me stories to get caught up on the news. I suggest that you check out Scott’s blog if you aren’t already addicted to it, as I am. It chronicles his adventures with his girl Dusty, and the daily happenings of our kennel. It also includes a calendar of our upcoming events and has a lot of inside information on our current inmates, as well as stories and pictures about the recent adoptions and deliveries.

This coming weekend, on Sunday, June 4th, for those of us down south, and those who don’t mind traveling a bit, we will have a play date and gathering at the Dog Dude Ranch, located at 6305 S.W. 120 Avenue, Miami, from 10 A.M. until 1 P.M. We will be in the front corral and dogs (greyhounds only) will be allowed off leash to romp, play, drink beer, and let off steam in general, until they poop out, or sixty seconds elapses, whichever comes first. We had a greyt time there last time, so join us if you can, this will be one of the last, if not the last outside gathering until the weather cools off again at the end of the year. Thanks in advance to the owners of Dog Dude Ranch, we always have a good time there. We are also looking for a nice place to gather inside somewhere that is air conditioned, so we can have a casual pot luck dinner without frying ourselves and our hounds. There is a hall in Ft. Lauderdale called POA hall that we used a while ago, but now they won’t rent it out unless a Ft. Lauderdale police officer requests it, so if we have or know of any Ft. Lauderdale police officers in our community that would vouch for us, please contact Michelle, or if you have a suggestion for another suitable venue, let us know.

We had a gathering this past Saturday at the Flamingo Road Nursery, thanks to those of you who came out, and Posey ended up meeting his new family there, as he picked up an app from a nice couple from Wilton Manors. We also had a meet and greet at the Pet Supermarket in Boca, and Savvy met his new family there and was delivered that next Friday. These little gatherings and meet and greets do pay off. We did a gig at the Riverside Elementary school, showing off our beautiful hounds to about seven or eight classes. We got a bunch of beautiful hand written thank you cards from the kids, some of them are posted on the website. I do urge you to check the website and especially Scott’s Dusty and Me blog which will give you excellent almost daily information on our kennel and the adoptable hounds.

As previously stated, I go away for a couple days and all heck breaks loose. Can’t use hell because everything that has happened has been good. I will attempt to cover all the movement, but I may miss some. Savvy, who met his match at the Pet Supermarket meet and greet, was delivered Friday. He has a new mom, grandma, two sisters, and a fenced in yard. He’s a happy camper. Posey, met some people at the Flamingo Road Nursery and has an app, I believe he will be delivered tomorrow evening. Recently adopted Randy’s humans have been in to talk about Kango, who is one of our special needs hounds, the one with the sight problem. He may have an opportunity for a home with them. Nothing guaranteed yet, but Michelle has new or different information on his problem, which might help make it easier for him to get a home. I will update that when I get more information, it would be fabulous if he can get a home with another greyhound. Word is in that Backwood Herman, who was adopted a while back, is doing just fine up in Coral Springs. Today, Domino went home with Daniel, who is a previous FoG adopter. Daniel’s dog Jeff just lost a battle with cancer, and he came to the Flamingo Road Nursery gathering and fell in love with Domino. Adopters who have previously adopted with us, have the option of taking a potential adoptable home for a free home trial. If this works out, Domino is going to have a wonderful human companion and a great home. I think I have covered all the action, if not, I will catch up next week, or you can check out Scott’s Dusty blog. It’s been a busy two weeks down here. I will update who is left in the kennel, but I think there’s Kango, Casey, the shy boy, but from what I’ve heard, is making progress daily in coming out of his shell. Taylor is a handsome white dude, and Stormy is our only girl at the moment. For all the information on any and all of our inmates, you can contact Michelle or Jerry, and as usual, if there’s an empty kennel, it will be filled PDQ. Have a greyt week, don’t bite anyone, and keep your hounds and yourself cool and hydrated.
