John’s Happy Tales Report
2/1/16 Mostly Happy Tales From Inside And Around The FoG Kennel.

20160131Where to start? Nice party yesterday, as Jerry enters his 69th year, and it probably would be fitting that he got a ton of dog biscuits for his 69th. Actually it was by design, Michelle requested them in lieu of presents and their wishes were answered very nicely. The kennel is down to two dogs. Do not panic, this is by design. The only two left are Darla and Charlie. Darla is a little girl, very shy, but beautiful, and the irrepressible Charlie, a big rowdy boy, looking to find his home with someone who can offer him some physical playtime as well as couch potato time. Once again, we have a method to our madness. With a virtual empty kennel, time can now be spent on cleaning and updating the cages. We will cleaning and painting the whole kennel area, deep cleaning the kennels, (if you can deep clean a kennel, it sounds more impressive than just cleaning). There’s also plans for adding a cover to the walkway and improving the inside kennel setup. The kennels should be completely cleaned, up and running by the end of the work week, and we will be getting more dogs immediately to fill the kennels. Meanwhile, don’t forget my favorite repeat, you are welcome to contact us and make an appointment at your convenience to come see them, or,,,, unlike most groups, we can most likely arrange for you to meet one or a couple potential adoptables at your adobe and at your convenience. Unlike the old set up, five hours on the weekends only, you can now arrange a meeting at your convenience, virtually any day of the week.

The Sunburst trip went well last Wednesday, special thanks to Cherie who rode shotgun, Jill for giving Michelle gas, (petroleum card, not what you think) and Mike Smith, I’m sure he had a big hand in prepping the van for the trip. The best part of the project is that they are all going to homes, (the dogs, not the humans) and some of them might already be in their new homes by the time you read this. Ms. Dee Dee is in her new home and at last report I heard she is doing well and her family is ecstatic with her. It takes special people to adopt a ten year old greyhound, knowing she won’t be there for a great length of time, but they did. I always say, those people are out there, not as many as regular adopters, but they are there, we just have to connect them with the special needs dogs, and hopefully this was one of those times.

Onward and upward we go. There will be no Friends of Greyhounds at the annual Renaissance Fair, rising costs and a new format for the vendors ended any ideas of that for this year. Fear not, we still have many other things going on. On Feb. 5th we are going to Mrs. Rodgers’ class, in Miami, not Mr. Rodgers’ neighborhood. They are celebrating the 100th day of school by donating 100 cans of dog food to help feed our kennel. They are only in Kindergarten, so they can still celebrate the 100th day of school. In a couple more years they will learn to celebrate the last day. They are also going to be dressing up like 100 year old people. Smart asses asked me to model for them. Just kidding, that didn’t really happen, but it probably could have. On February 13th we have the Valentine’s Day party at our favorite Pet Supermarket, and that has been well covered already, if you haven’t seen anything on it, you can check the website or Facebook. April 3rd weekend will be the annual Horses and Hounds, more on that as it gets closer. I think the Pompano Beach Seafood Festival is also on the horizon, but haven’t seen anything on that yet. We will not be sitting around idly twiddling our thumbs, that’s for sure.

Last but not least, thank you again to all of you who came out and helped Jerry celebrate his fighting 69th Birthday. I know I speak for them when I say how much we enjoy seeing old friends both two and four legged, again. Flamingo Road Nursery is a great place to visit, beautiful nursery, great barbeque, and a gracious host to all of us. We got caught up on news and gossip and got to see our beautiful hounds and equally beautiful humans again. June will be the second year since we’ve closed the kennel, the time has passed so quickly, we’ve lost some of our beloved adoptables and adoptees, but that just makes it so much better to see the ones who are still with us. Thank you for supporting us all these years and we hope to be there to support you as long as we can. I can’t begin to mention everyone’s name, I’m sure Jerry and Michelle can, but seeing you all certainly made my week. It was weird to see Jerry B. without one, two, or three dogs in front of him, and Mike and Bear are closing in on senior citizen age, but still look like the dynamic duo to me. Greyt to see all of you, stay healthy and give your dogs a hug from us.

Late Note: Michelle just informed me that someone left a small black jacket at the Nursery yesterday, she has it at the house, and you can call her.
