John’s Happy Tales Report
12/12/16 Mostly Happy Tales From Inside And Around The FoG Kennel.

Less than two weeks till Christmas, the FoG Kennel is abuzz with the holiday season turmoil. Michelle is running around like a Chick Filet with her head cut off and the rest of the world is not far behind. Plenty of spirit, the only thing we are missing is the cold weather. It doesn’t have to snow or sleet, or even get into the twenties, all I ask for is maybe a few cool days and some fifties or sixties at night.

First of all, thanks to Auggie Doggies who sent us $105 from the raffles they ran for us last month. Remember, we won’t be at Pet Supermarket for meet and greet until after the New Year, and the annual Horses and Hounds has been moved to Sunday, February 19th. We still have plenty of time left to talk about that.

We’re currently working on getting hounds adopted just in time or exactly on Christmas. What better gift than a large bundle of love that keeps on giving, just in time for Christmas morning, or eve? Michelle is on record as saying that she doesn’t even mind delivering on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning if she can get the right dog hooked up for the right family. We’ve already got our new addition, Creepy, he was more of a Thanksgiving week present, but has turned out to be a beautiful loving guy, gets along with his K-9 brothers and feline brothers, two of each. He loves other people too, sticks his nose in places he’s not supposed to, but has done nothing to change my mind about wishing I had fifty others to live with. They are quite a bit of responsibility and sometimes work, but worth it. Remember that our hounds are basically family, not something that may be cute when it’s a puppy or something to be gotten rid of when things don’t go perfect. They are a life time commitment, and please remember that we are and always have been there for support. If for any reason, it isn’t working for either you or the hound, let us know, we welcome them back. Many perfect homes are not found on the first attempt and the ultimate goal is to bring the right pet to the right family. Every hound has a perfect home awaiting him and every potential adopter has the perfect pet for them out there, they have to be hooked up, whether it’s on the first attempt or fourth, and we’ve done probably over two thousand dogs since we started, so we have some experience under our belts, as well as a long list of satisfied adopters.

We have some activity in the kennel this past week. Keene was delivered to his new home. He will be living with his new family who are experienced greyhound owners, with a nice fenced yard, local relatives who also have our greyhounds. What else could he ask for except maybe a turkey neck for Christmas. Jackson is being delivered next Saturday and he looks like a lock for his forever home. Billy is coming back, he was suffering from separation anxiety, so he will have to work some more to find just the right people that can provide him with the security he needs and hopefully people that are not away from the house for very long. Special needs, yes, but guaranteed a beautiful loving animal once you have made it past the obstacles. I know special needs dogs and love them, I know personally they are worth the effort if you are one of those people who have the time and patience to work with them. One new dog in as of this moment, named BB, a beautiful black dog with a white blaze nose. He loves people, has already met the Vet, so he’s ready to go. For complete up to the minute information on any of our available animals you can call or email Michelle or Jerry through the kennel. They can set up a meeting at the kennel or even bring one or two to your house to meet you on your turf at your convenience. Ok, stay safe in your pre-Christmas travels about town. To all our alumni, have a greyt week, and if you’ve never owned a greyhound but are considering it, one of the best things you can do is contact a few greyhound owners and ask what they think, but be forewarned, these dogs can become habit forming, and like the potato chips, a lot of times it’s tough to stop with just one.
