John’s Happy Tales Report
11/28/16 Mostly Happy Tales From Inside And Around The FoG Kennel.

Happy end of November as my favorite three months of the year flash by at the speed of light, now leaving us with just a couple days over a month till the end of the year. We hope that everyone had a greyt Thanksgiving, our new resident Creepy is doing fine, starting his second week with us. The belly band was long gone until Sunday when for no reason, he decided to lift his leg on Julie’s pile of empty mailing postal boxes. Fortunately, they were covered and nothing was damaged except my ego and his pride. Hasn’t happened again, and he’s fitting in beautifully otherwise, quite the opposite of Diffy and proving that they may look and act alike on the outside, but each one has their own individual personality.

While I was browsing through our website today, I came upon the Greyhound Resources section. This was new to me, although it may have been there for quite a while, I tend to miss things on occasions. This little section has currently eight items that are well worth reading, topics including, Recipes, Your Greyhound’s History, Health Matters, Affordable Websites, Recreation, Emergencies, Micro chipping, and Lost Dogs. If I get the space and time, I will try to mention one each week. Starting with Lost Dogs, which I think gives the most upsetting and helpless feeling of them all. Looking out in the yard and finding them gone is, to me, worse than having your car stolen. First thing to remember, if you are local, please call us immediately, we will help you. Second, do not be ashamed or embarrassed, it’s happened before and it will happen again, and even to people who think it cannot happen to them. Check this short article out, and keep it or our website handy just in case. I am happy to report that I have been on several lost dog hunts (yes some of us will even take to the streets to help search if we can), and, although I’ve never personally found a lost hound, I have captured and saved another breed dog that was running loose in the same area at the time. I can also say that every dog hunt that I’ve heard of or been involved with has had a happy ending, with the hound being safely returned to their humans. Who finds the lost animal, how or why he got lost is not important, the thing we want is to have them safely reunited with their people. It’s not fun out there on the streets for people, let alone animals that are lost, frightened, and hungry.

Don’t forget, the Horses and Hounds event has been switched to Sunday, February 19th. If anyone has, or their companies have something that they can donate for our silent auction, please contact Michelle at the website or 954-937-9663. Horses and Hounds is pretty much our premier fundraiser, so if you have an item that would help, please let us know. This past week, a sweet girl named Gia won the National Dog Show BEST IN Show award. Although the show hounds look a bit different than our racing hounds, this event has definitely expanded the general public’s interest in greyhounds, which is very good news for us. Michelle says there’s already been an increase in inquiries about our hounds and the show is airing again next Saturday, so we will be in the news and on the tube in the near future as well. This was Gia’s 44th Best in Show win and the event started with around two thousand dogs representing 202 breeds, so she beat the whole field and there’s a lot of buzz going on right now about greyhounds.

Ralph

It looks like Santa’s elves have nothing on Michelle, along with the Resources section, she’s also updated the Wish List for this year, to reflect more of what we need now as opposed to what we used to need with the larger kennel. Those of you who do your shopping online, please consider using FoG for your ‘Amazon Smile’ donations. The Smile donations add up quickly and are very helpful, Amazon even reminds you of it when you log in. If you are getting your ‘kids’ new comforters this Christmas, don’t forget the kennel, our inmates would like to call ‘dibs’ for any that you no longer have use for. Single bed comforters are perfect size, but they all can be used, even the elephant comforters can be divvied up for those of you with Dumbos.

Keene

We have a new girl in the kennel, a little petite red girl named Annie. She has just arrived, came in with an injured leg, but is getting along very nicely. Cute, friendly, and lively are her first three attributes. It’s big boy week, Keene and Ralph have been getting some serious looks this past week, so if you’ve got a nice big boy with plenty of energy in mind, you might want to check them out, especially if you have a nice fenced in yard, they love to run and are both poetry in motion when they get their motors going. We’ve also got Jackson and Darla sitting here, bags packed and ready to go home with someone for Christmas. Darla is super shy and Jackson needs his people available all the time, so they will require special humans to hook up and take care of their special needs, but they also will make a beautiful addition to the right home. If you think this might be you, contact Michelle or Jerry, we do have our special people out there who seek the special needs adoptable.

Fireball has made it to his new home, so we congratulate him and his new family and wish them much happiness, health, and love. Ok, don’t forget to check out the Resources Section of our website, don’t forget the new date for Horses and Hounds is February 19th. Thank you all for your support over the years, we’ve always tried to be there for you and we appreciate you always being there for us. Have a safe week, enjoy the last month of the year and let’s see if we can get some more hounds into loving homes in time for Christmas.

One final note, which I forgot, under the topic of donations. We are still set up for v-Dac (Vehicle Donation to any Charity). If you are getting a new car for Christmas, in lieu of the comforter, we will be glad to take your old car off your hands. Any used car would be fine, you can get a nice write off and it would help us out too, even if it’s not running.
