John’s Happy Tales Report
1/11/16 Mostly Happy Tales From Inside And Around The FoG Kennel, Starting The New Year Off In Unusual But Greyt Circumstances For The Hounds.

My first item is a note of condolence to Lisa. Her boy Duncan is about at the end of his life, a victim of cancer, and I received the news over the past weekend. Just wanted to mention it, I know we’ve all suffered that feeling, so hopefully knowing that our thoughts are with you, it will be at least some comfort for you. Thank you, and everyone, no matter what breed they share their lives with, for taking them into your home and heart and providing for them for the rest of their lives, no matter how long it may be. I was a bit premature when I announced that I would be out for a couple weeks while having my knee replaced. When I learned about the greyhound glut we are about to have, I got so excited that I cancelled it. Well, not really, I failed the EKG at the pre-op and with an irregular heartbeat; they want to find out what’s going on before they do the replacement. Works for me, I’m not a fan of waking up dead on the operating table, so it looks like I’ll be here to spread the news for a while yet, and we do have some news. Something we’ve not had for quite a while, an excess of greyhound adoptables. You can read all about it on Ms. Michelle’s blog and I will try to cover some of it.

We will again be working with the Sunburst Project. We’ve worked very successfully with them previously, we love them and they love our dogs. They adopt dogs out to other areas in the country that have a shortage of adoptable greyhounds, which is the opposite of the situation we have here in Florida, especially South Florida. They don’t take the dogs until they have a home lined up for it, so they don’t just go to another location and sit in a different kennel somewhere. It’s a win/win situation for all concerned and that’s one reason you may see a pet greyhound in areas up north that do not have racing anywhere in their area, but do have adoption groups. We will be doing a run up to them in the next couple weeks. As usual, Michelle is up (almost) over her head, even with standing on Jerry’s shoulders. We are looking for some temporary foster homes for our overflow, just until the trip date, which will be sometime during the last week in January. We’re also looking for volunteers to do some paper work to get them ready and they will need baths and some grooming to get them looking their Sunday best for the trip. We take pride in our operation and always get compliments on our dogs, so we will be keeping that tradition. The weather is great, the location is Sunrise, so if you have or know any kids that need their community service hours and like to work with animals, we have work for them. Contact Michelle or Jerry if you have the time and ability. Most likely you will be able to work at times that are convenient to you and the kennel is in Sunrise, so that’s where the work will be done, not in Hialeah.

Ok, that covers the big news, join us next week and maybe I will have an updated list of the animals we have now for adoption, as I’m sure it will change somewhat. Rosco may be going to a new home, he has a tentative adoption, but must find out if he is allowed to live there, it’s kind of a high end neighborhood and he will have to get an approved muffler on his motorcycle if he wants to be able to drive it in his new home. Next meet and greet will be on Sunday instead of Saturday at the Pet Supermarket on E. Sunrise Blvd, that’s Sunday from ten until two, stop by and see us if you can. Ren-Fest is also on the horizon, more on that as it gets nearer, and, before the great greyhound influx, we were planning another little get together at the Flamingo Road Nursery, but that will also most likely be after the Sunburst trip. One last thing, be sure to check out Michelle’s blog, it has all the information that I’ve not covered on the Sunburst and what’s going on. If you have or know someone who can come up with some carpets for the kennel, that is a high priority item at the moment, so I figured I’d mention it here and maybe someone knows someone in the carpet, flooring, or home improvement business that can help us get some, I know we used to have contacts, so maybe you might know of someone. That should be most of the news as I know it, you might want to check the blogs, we will be adding information as it becomes available. As always, you can check the website, Pet Finder, or contact Michelle or Jerry to find out exactly who is available for adoption, up to the minute information. Have a greyt week and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us, or even if you have some answers for that matter, we’ll be glad to hear from you.
