John’s Happy Tails Report
1/13/14 Mostly Happy Tales From Inside And Around The Kennel And Next Sunday, From Under The Wash Cloth.

Poopadoodle doo, just because we didn’t adopt out any dogs doesn’t mean we don’t have to do the blog. Still much news regardless. Ok, we officially didn’t adopt any dogs out this weekend, not actually unusual for January, when people are recovering from Christmas, New Years, and the holiday spending bills. Last week Braska Tootie and Wind Goddess were delivered and four dogs, BA Colt, Superior Faith, AJ’s Toni, and Magic Mercey went to Gold Coast Gainesville and we have the year’s first trip to Emerald Coast in the planning stage for early February. Next Sunday is the washday fundraiser. Real racing trainers will be here (you expected fake?) washing, waxing, clipping nails, and cleaning ears. I was kidding about the waxing, and the donation is $20 for the whole smear, and $10 for just the nails. We’ll have some basic snack, most likely Hot Dogs, and they will also be on sale. Bring money, we need it. Also, BS Bob was supposed to go to his new home today, he will be living with his new IG (Italian Greyhound) little brother, Vinny, and we wish them all the most love and best health for the rest of their years together.

KB's Loudnclear

KB’s Loudnclear at Home

Last weekend was still very active, as we had a lot of visits from alumni, we got the van washed and cleaned inside and out, thank you splendid volunteers, and there were a lot of looks, but no takes. It’s been discovered that one of our very new girls, Astarsweetandhot, has a sibling living up north and his owner wants to adopt her and have them live together, so that’s in the works. There were no fewer than three groups of visitors with what is now known as ‘John Syndrom’, where the kids and one of the spouses wants a dog, but the other spouse, usually the wife (in my case, she does all the work in the household, so she does have a valid (but insignificant to us) point) is not quite as sure about it and will need a little more time to assess the merits of the new addition. It’s a fairly common situation and I do feel better knowing that I wasn’t the only one that ‘didn’t need another dog’ in the house. Yes, they are complete indoor dogs, they cannot live outdoors, so if you live in a tent you will have to consider another breed, or, move indoors. On the other hand, there were also no returns, so we at least didn’t lose any ground.

Acehigh Jessie

We got word this week that one of our dogs was seen at a Christmas parade in Gainesville, from the email, the lady even moved to accommodate him and now he has a loving home with her. His name is Andre, and was known in the racing world as Flying Nomadic. Another Sunburst dog, Loudnclear, has found a beautiful home up north, living with two other greyhounds. He is now living with two gorgeous fawn greys. If we have pictures available, the webmaster might post them, especially the one where he’s laying his head on the other’s head, it looks like they’re doing very well together.

I’m hoping that our webmaster Jerry has acquired some of the new pictures, as we featured some of the veterans last week. Acehigh Jessie is one of our new babes. She is the sister of Acehigh Casino, also one of our fresh arrivals. This Donnie/Marie brother sister act is every bit as cute as the original Osmonds, Casino (Dude) is drop dead gorgeous, and Jessie has a set of ears as good or better than my favorite Mouseketeer, Annette, if you don’t believe me, come check her out. Greta’s Hotcake is a little red beauty, and she could have me if she played her cards right. Actually I’d take her in a heartbeat, and she’s only a vowel away from being Grata’s Hotcake. Don Coryell has also just arrived with as good a record in racing as the famed football coach, and our Donnie is much better looking. Sorry, I always saw him on the sidelines and he always was doubled over and looked constipated to me. Our Donnie is just the opposite, sleek and fast moving.

We had a bunch of visitors over the weekend, and I will never get tired of saying how much we love to see the ‘alumni’ stop by. I apologize for almost never getting both owner and dog’s name correct, but kennel manager Chris, Michelle, Jerry, and Jerry always come to the rescue. I have an excuse, I’m old, but we really love to see them. I actually wrote down six of them last weekend, and guess how many I can now name off? Six! It’s amazing what you can remember if you write it down and don’t forget where you put it. Cher, who is pretty regular in attendance and Wingo, who is moving to California, taking up surfing and looking for the Beverly Hillbillies I heard. Ramsey and his human showed up, Ramsey is the former Lane Jones and looking good, Atascocita Gabe, is a black dog, looking a little more ‘mature’ now, as the black dogs tend to do with the onset of the white muzzle. Gabe always liked to do turnout with the girls, he was no dummy, but we didn’t let him do that until after he was fixed. We’re not as dumb as he thought we were either. Kwix was here, possibly thinking about adding a new brother or sister to his home, and Skate McQueen, known to us as Skate, is looking very good. Turbo Eduardo, or Turbo, is looking magnificent; my only problem is that I didn’t write him down, so I can’t remember if he was here Saturday or last week. Oh well, that’s some of them, and they’re all doing very well in the real world of house pets. Ok, time to get this in before I forget, no pun intended. We hope to see you this coming weekend, and if your dog needs a washing, clipping, and ear cleaning by professionals, we need the cash, so let’s get together, we’d love to have your company in any case.
