John’s Happy Tails Report #7
More Real Tales, Mostly Happy, From Inside The Kennel, And Sometimes Inside The Crate

Merry Christmas from Weezy

Merry Christmas from Weezy

Peace on earth and good will towards men, as we spend a quiet Christmas Eve sitting home listening to traditional music, with the exception of Jingle Bells by the Singing Dogs, which just ended and inspired me to sit down and report on this past weekend’s events. The annual Christmas party peaked on Saturday afternoon, in attendance a dozen or two alumni with their humans in tow, circling the food table. From what I saw, a great time was had by all, plenty of food, an abundance of excellent homemade desserts, good times, beautiful dogs and lots of shared stories with those special people, greyhound owners. No mishaps, accidents or problems to speak of, maybe one stepped on tail for the whole day. Atascocita Gabe made his second pilgrimage from West Palm in search of his good friend, Kennelmaster Chris, but the trip was in vain for the second straight time, Chris was not at the kennel. Gabe was obviously disappointed and tried to sooth his disappointment by sneaking a package of crackers, which fell open before he could get them in his pocket. All was forgiven and there undoubtedly was more than one attempt to pilfer from the table.  The others were probably a little faster with the tongue, Gabe was just the unfortunate one caught with his paw in the cookie jar. Sunday was a repeat of Saturday but with less attendance and featuring mainly desserts. A thank you to all who attended, brought items, and made the weekend a barking success.

A quiet weekend, but still active as CB’s Heather, aka Helen, was scheduled to be delivered just in time for Christmas and we wish her a blessed Christmas with her new humans and a successful New Year in her new home. Kool Trent is basically a family member with his new family and sister Killer Lizzy.  He’s a shoo in and getting along great in his new digs. The nicest story of the week (only because it is a rare double take), Milly’s Uncle, aka Tio and Sell Cars and Trucks, aka Enzo, who both were returned from the same home for reasons not their doing, have found a home together, thanks to the team at Gold Coast Greyhound Adoptions Gainesville, who took them with that purpose and pulled it off. They will be spending Christmas together as they did last year, with a new and loving owner, hopefully their last home switch.

Not a lot of activity with visitors as it’s the last weekend before Christmas, but we did get a rush on Sunday afternoon, late. Yahoo Zinger was not lonely, neither was Backwood Kalen, a brand new arrival, the smallest girl in the kennel, barely topping fifty pounds, I believe Ms. Petite as I call Kalen, will not be here very long. A couple of space aliens arrived this week, Flying Star Trek, aka Trekie, a beautiful three year old red boy, and MV’s Flyinsaucer, aka Ronnie, a white and brindle three year old boy. Ronnie has an issue with an eye infection and we don’t know yet how this will turn out. Our newest girl is Racin Ruby, a gorgeous dark brindle girl, and she won’t be three until February, so for you cradle robbers out there, Ruby is only three days older than Kalen. They are the youngest girls behind “Santa’s Little Helper”, aka Donna, who won’t be two until July of next year and is currently the baby of the kennel. Braska Pitch, aka Pitch is our youngest boy, followed closely by CRT Gunter, aka Gump. Pitch was born in September of 2010 and Gump in July of 2010. So, tonight, we’re talking young, as Christmas is mostly for the children, so with that in mind, we hope all our four legged children get their wish and find a new and loving home. As for you humans, please have a safe and beautiful Christmas, and note, that we use Christmas every chance we get, politically correct or not. Thanks to everyone for noticing us and helping us help these beautiful animals. What goes around, comes around and good begets good. It being Christmas eve we won’t even mention Trent, Darryl, or the ducks tonight, but wish them all a Merry Christmas and may visions of sugar plums, or peanut butter cookies, whatever, dances in their heads.
