John’s Happy Tails Report #6
More Real Tales, Mostly Happy, From Inside The Kennel, And Sometimes Inside The Crate

Kiowa Jill Dan

Don’t forget, kennel party next Saturday, the 22nd of December, 10 A.M. until 3 P.M. or the cows come home, whichever comes first. It will be a dog day morning and afternoon, Jerry will be cooking dogs and we’ll be showing dogs. Wendle, aka Kiowa Jil Dan, Gary, aka CD’s Gary, and Donald, aka Raging Donald, all fans of Three Dog Night, have formed their own vocal group and might sing their version of ‘Joy To The World’, with special guest Jeremiah the bullfrog joining them on bass guitar. The general public is invited and welcome and there is no requirement to take home a greyhound, but be careful, these animals are addictive. More and more people who take one home are now coming back for seconds. We also did some Christmas pictures and hopefully they will be making an appearance on the Facebook or regular Website soon mon, very soon.

CB’s Heather, aka Helen could be heard practicing her now favorite Christmas song, ‘’I’ll Be Home For Christmas’’, she will likely be in her new home by Christmas Eve, perhaps sitting on the couch listening to Bing Crosby’s version of the Christmas classic, or watching ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ while munching on some popcorn with her new humans, enjoying and living life as it should be. Kool Trent, was scheduled to do a duet with her, but he will also most likely be in his new home with little sister Lizzy, aka Killer Lizzy, another one of our beautiful alumni, playing Frisbee or Twister with his new ferret friends, and enjoying the holidays with his new humans. Trent is a lucky dog, two weeks ago he lost his home, everyone here was sad eyed, but he was discovered and fallen in love with very quickly by one of our volunteers and his home trial has gone very successfully, so we’re thinking he’ll be home for Christmas too.

Tough Task

Tough Task

As mentioned, a lot of people visited the kennel over the weekend, San Tan Pro Mo, aka Promo is on hold for a previous adopter who is coming to get him and Tough Task, aka Toby had some serious looks. He’s the boy version of a material girl. He’s such a beautiful dog he gets noticed all the time. He’s also a great dog if you like quiet, calm animals with nice personalities, and it appears that a lot of people do. Tabi, the runner up in the ‘not the most beautiful dog in the kennel’ contest, got some looks. I’m telling people they don’t know what they’re missing, this is the current ‘love dog’ of the kennel and I will be actively promoting her because if I take her home, and I would in a heartbeat, it would be extremely hazardous to my health. I’m doing the next best thing, getting her back into a real home as soon as I can. So the life I save may be my own and I can honestly go on public record as trying my best to set Tabi up before I do something stupid, as Frank Sinatra once sang and try to hide her under the dining table, which I successfully (for a half hour) did with another dog. A very nice weekend and most dogs, if not every one, at least got a look, which is what we want to do.

No return dogs this weekend, which broke a short streak of weekly returns. Anytime one comes back it’s a sad scenario for all parties involved. Returns are part of life, so we just have to make the best of them and carry on as best we can. Being the eternal optimist, I believe it happened for a reason and the humans and dogs weren’t meant for each other. There are still plenty of humans left and other dogs that will fit in perfectly with each owner or family and vice versa.

Shilo Dizzy

Shilo Dizzy

Dizzy and Nellie are our only two current special needs dogs and they’re only ‘special needs’ because of their ages. I guess that makes a lot of us ‘special needs’. Shiloh Dizzy is currently being fostered by one of our volunteers but is available for adoption. We don’t normally foster dogs but we thought that at 12 years old, she deserved a couch instead of a kennel. So if you the least bit interested in her you can call Michelle (954-937-9663) and she’ll make arrangements for Dizzy to be at the kennel on the weekend to meet you. In full disclosure, she is twelve years old, so don’t look for long term companionship in this case. But if you like seniors, Dizzy is a Doll! Red Moon Nurse, aka Nellie is ten years old and looking for a couch of her own. She is in excellent shape, looks nothing like an old lady, but she has the Chihuahua syndrome. She’s a one person dog but after several happy, loving years, her mom no longer had a place to keep her. If you are a dog or cat, it’s a good idea to stay out of Nellie’s way. Still, for the right person, she will be the perfect pet, and as with Dizzy, she will not be the girl of your dreams for the next decade, but will be generous with love and affection for whatever time she has left allotted in this life. Our kennel is nice as kennels go but I would sure like to get these two some better digs.

Darryl

Darryl

From the tabloid section, since Trent and Lizzy are just about a sure thing, they have been replaced as the Luke and Laura couple of the week. Braska Pitch is rumored to have had a great afternoon date with a girl named Sandy, whom I believe is one of our alumni. It went well from what I heard and we’ll have to wait for further developments on this story. From the office, the Great Velcro Board war between John and Michelle has reached a truce and negotiations are slated. Michelle will start from the bottom with her shiny happy face stickers and John will begin from the top with his green and red sharpies and they hope to meet in the middle somewhere. And, last but not least, our apologies to Darryl Berlin, we accused him of mooning the Red Road traffic, but he was actually just digging out a little sand hole to nap in, and he was facing west when he was digging with his le derriere in the air. The complaint was recorded as a passing motorist, but upon further investigation, it turned out to be the opossum that reported it, no doubt trying to get Darryl in trouble. Have a great week, come in and meet our ‘people’, 47 of the nicest animals you’ll ever meet. See you at the Party!
