Welcome to Friends of Greyhounds
Welcome and thank you for visiting our site. Based in South Florida, Friends of Greyhounds is a non-profit (501c3) corporation whose mission is to provide retired racing greyhounds with a caring environment and loving homes and to educate the public about these noble, loyal dogs. We are a final ray of hope for greyhounds that have no place to go after they retire from racing.
If you are in the area, please take a ride down and see the greys at our weekly open house at our shelter in Hialeah where you can get to know the greyhounds that are available for adoption and ask our knowledgeable volunteers any questions you may have. We’ve placed retired greyhounds in great homes in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano, Coral Gables, Hollywood, Boca Raton, Delray Beach and everywhere in between and we’re very proud of the work we do. Remember you don’t have to own a greyhound to volunteer. Come for a visit and get to know us.
If you would like to volunteer or have something you’d like to donate, please contact us.

Okay, I get lazy because John does such a great job on the weekly kennel report and I don’t push myself to get a “Michelle Blog” out. But our kennel reporter is taking a few days of sabbatical so I’ll try to get all my little notes and notices out. So in no particular order. [...]
It seems to be the season for losing dogs. We have had one after another. The latest one, Lulu (Tb’s No Limit) was found safely after five days. She had been taken in by a lady who finally saw a poster and knew who to call. So it’s time to formulate (or review) your plan [...]
We have a pair of very special dogs in our kennel that are being overlooked. They are M’s Pretty Lori (sometimes called Stella) and Dynamic Macy (sometimes called Gumbo) and they are victims of divorce. They are sweet, gentle and so ready to walk into the right home – together, I hope! Lori is a [...]
If it’s at all possible for me to be brief, this will be the best chance yet to find out, it’s late Sunday, I’m ready to start a little road trip early in the morning and if this doesn’t get done tonight, it won’t get done, which will possibly result in the world coming to [...]
“And a-wayyyy we go.” Heard countless times by those of us old enough to remember seeing the Jackie Gleason show, ‘The Honeymooners’, one of the classic live shows of yesteryear. On Sunday I got to participate in my second dog escape and revive those old memories when our very own Jackie Gleason decided he’d had [...]
While people drove by our kennel all day last weekend, unknowing and uncaring about what was going on in the kennel across the sleepy old canal and under the big shade trees, a small group of alumni and their humans were celebrating the Memorial Day Holiday with food and festivities. We have a special community [...]
If anyone complained about lack of activity on Mother’s Day weekend, we more than made up for it during the week and this past weekend. I participated in my very first search and rescue mission on Thursday. In the past three or four weeks three lost greyhounds were reunited with their families, two of them [...]
