Welcome to Friends of Greyhounds
Welcome and thank you for visiting our site. Based in South Florida, Friends of Greyhounds is a non-profit (501c3) corporation whose mission is to provide retired racing greyhounds with a caring environment and loving homes and to educate the public about these noble, loyal dogs. We are a final ray of hope for greyhounds that have no place to go after they retire from racing.
If you are in the area, please take a ride down and see the greys at our weekly open house at our shelter in Hialeah where you can get to know the greyhounds that are available for adoption and ask our knowledgeable volunteers any questions you may have. We’ve placed retired greyhounds in great homes in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano, Coral Gables, Hollywood, Boca Raton, Delray Beach and everywhere in between and we’re very proud of the work we do. Remember you don’t have to own a greyhound to volunteer. Come for a visit and get to know us.
If you would like to volunteer or have something you’d like to donate, please contact us.

It was a very bleak weekend as far as greyhound adoptions were concerned. It was so quiet that I feel compelled to mention our cat Bruce the ninja cat warrior is currently playing paper-ball soccer in the hallway. He doesn’t like to lose, so he plays against himself. Quite comical to watch, but I guess […]
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us, including the hounds, to all of you, and best wishes for a fantastic holiday and please keep it safe. December 4th, which is a Wednesday, will be the day of the upcoming Dinner with the Doc fundraiser and all the information is listed in our flyers that were mailed […]
Why at Welleby? Dr. John Willie has been FoG’s veterinarian since we started this venture in 2001. I remember almost forcing the man to come to our “kennel” we had built in our garage so he would know we had really committed to this project and we NEEDED him to commit to it, too. We […]
That’s what I apparently wrote almost exactly a year ago today, I don’t remember what I was doing inside a crate though. I was wondering why that kennel blog didn’t have a number on it and it turned out to be the first one written last November 12th as an experiment and which has continued […]
I will have to depend on reports from the kennel for last weekend’s activity, since I was in the middle of the state sharing the agony of defeat with fellow Hurricane fans. It was a great weekend except for about a half hour (in football time, real time seemed like an eternity) Saturday evening, but […]
I missed last week so we will have to catch up a little bit on the arrivals and departures as well as the past weekend’s activities. The end of October is here already, one third of my favorite time of the year for 2013 is gone already and I don’t know where it went. The […]
